Mirima Lodge is newly built luxury accommodation found on a forested ridge on the edge of two crater lakes outside Kibale national park  in Western Uganda. The lodge is on the shores of lake Nyamirima , set against the backdrop of gentle rolling tea hills and stunning Forest .

How to get there:

It takes approximately 5-6 hours to drive from Kampala to Kibale National Park via Mubende and an hour to fly from Entebbe International Airport to Kasese airstrip, then a few hours to be transferred to the lodge since it is located 56km from Kasese airstrip. The lodge is a 30 minutes’ drive to Chimpanzee trekking headquarters.

About the lodge

Mirima lodge consists of 10 elegant and confortable  hand –built cottages, of which 8 are forested suites  and 2 family villas overlooking the breathtaking views of the crater lakes, reflecting African traditional style with natural materials and local woods.

Cottages are well elevated with raised wooden platforms decorated and furnished with en-suite private facilities of clean flushing Toilets,  bathroom with hot and cold showers, large windows, comfortable beds that are wrapped with mosquito nets, chairs, free toiletries, complimentary bottled water in the rooms, white pillows and duvets, and wooden tables, among many more.

Suites and Villas  have large sitting areas and terraces overlooking the Lush green forest landscape and lakes.

Cottages vary in different sizes with single beds for individuals, double beds for friends or couples, twin beds, and villa bedrooms for families or group  .

Services offered at the lodge  include;

 On-site restaurant that serves delicious types of Menu with traditional culinary from all corners of the world and international meals that meets guests appetite.  You will enjoy all the homemade dishes filled with fruits and vegetables making Cuisine unique. You will have Continental/buffet breakfast in the rooms, lunch and a 3-course dinner in the main building served by well-trained, organized staff and a skilled chef.

WIFI hotspot internet is available at the lodge that enables visitors to keep in touch with their families and friends.

Activities to do while at the lodge include birding/bird watching as you listen to the sound of the whispering birds in the village; chimpanzee tracking since Kibale is the home of chimpanzees; Hiking and  climbing Mount Rwenzori; natural walks in the forest; and Bigodi swamp, among many others  .

About the park

Kibale Forest National Park is located on the foothills of Mount Rwenzori, 65 km south of Fort Portal tourism city in Western Uganda, covering a total area of 766 square kilometers.  The park is basically the best destination for primate viewing and birding.

It is home to over 1,500 chimpanzees in Kibale, and there are about 5,000 chimpanzees in the whole world, along with over 13 primate species, a few mammals, and over 300 species of birds, including sunbirds, bee-eaters, Tawny Eagles, Grey-headed Kingfishers, Yellow-billed Hornbills, and many more.

Chimpanzee tracking and habituation is the famous tourist activity in Kibale national park since it’s the home of Various Primates.  One has to have a chimpanzee permit in order to track, which costs $250 for non-foreign residents and $200 for foreign residents.

For Ugandans, it’s 180,000/=, and Habituation is $300 for non-foreign residents. There are more accommodations available in Kibale National Park, including budget, mid-range (moderate), and luxury options that are friendly and affordable for visitors.

 There are different activities to do while in Kibale  national park include; Chimpanzee tracking experiences since the lodge is close to the forest and the park has more chimpanzees, chimpanzee habituation, Birding/bird watching in kibale, as you enjoy the whispering sound of birds in the forest since the park has  many different bird species, visiting bigodi swamp ,  cultural experience from the local village tribe like Traditional dance and food, Nature walks in the park , golden monkey tracking , mountain biking and climbing , visiting the crater lake like kyaninga and many other activities.
