Park Entrance Fees

Park entrance fees in Kibale National Park are stipulated by the Uganda wildlife authority (UWA) which responsible for the stipulation of all the park entry fees and other charges of all national parks in Uganda. Kibale national park is a renowned destination for chimpanzee trekking and habituation. The forest is all filled with quite spectacular ecosystems that facilitate the livelihood of the chimpanzees and other primates.

Kibale national park harbors over 1000 chimpanzees, probably this is a genuine reason as to why kibale national park is referred to as the primates’ capital of the world. Besides the chimps, kibale national park is a home to over 10 other species of primates including the black and white colobus monkeys, the red tailed monkeys, plus the night primates such as the pottos, bush babies, and other animals like the night tree pangolins, the forest elephants, and birds among others. Despite, the highlight of the safaris to kibale national park is the chimpanzee trekking and habituation.

The adaptability of chimpanzees is majorly based on the type of vegetation in kibale national park. Kibale national park is a semi-deciduous rain forest with sections of thick undergrowth. Here trekking for the chimpanzees can be quite challenging. Chimpanzee trekking in kibale national park puts a light on the primate safaris in Uganda. Kibale national park is categorized under category A and it includes the major national parks in uganda. The park entrance fees to kibale national park are categorized into small groups, a follows;

Individual park entrance fees

This is payment per entry per person despite child or adult. The individual park entrance fees to kibale park are further categorized under the status of the visitor; i.e. foreign nonresidents, foreign residents, and the East African society. To note, a passport is used to show that the visitor is foreign nonresident, the work permit, valid for 1 year is also required of the foreign resident of Uganda, however, a valid national identity card issued at the gate by the east African citizens.

An adult is entitled to a payment of 40USD as park entrance for the foreign nonresident, and 30 USD for a foreign resident visitor in uganda. However, a member of east Africa is entitled to UGX20000 for park entry fees of kibale national park.

The children, on the other hand, are charged differently; a child who is a foreign nonresident of east Africa is entitled to 20USD as park entrance charge. Child who is a foreign resident in uganda, is required of 10US for park entrance fee to kibale national park, and UGX5000 for the east African citizens. However, in this case, children are considered to be below the age of 12years, and are not liable to any park entrance fees.

The students groups are taken to be all east African citizens; they are entitled to UGX3000 as park entry to kibale national park. However, the tertiary and the university students are charged UGX5000a pass to kibale national park. Pupils and students that belong to different wild life clubs are charged a small fee of UGX2000 as park entry fee to kibale national park.

Annual park entrance fees to kibale national park

You can also choose to pay the park entry fees to kibale national park for the whole year; this can avoid stress of pain every season for park entry to kibale national park. An individual to kibale national park is liable to 350 USD as annual park entry and UGX 150000 for the east African citizens. On the other hand, a couple is entitled to 500 USD, if foreign residents, and UGX 200000, if east African citizens, as kibale national park annual entrance fees. To note, annual park entry is only allowed for the foreign residents and the east African citizens.

A family of about four children is entitled to an annual park entry charge of 700USD, for foreign residents, and UGX 300000 for a family of east African citizens as park entrance fees annually. On the other hand, an annual corporate pass for a group of foreign residents is 1500 USD and UGX 2.5 millin for the east African citizens for annual corporate pass.

A safari guide in this case is considered to be an east African citizen; therefore, tour guides are entitled to UGX 100000 as annual park entry to kibale national park, same applies to a taxi driver. A tour company driver is not charged for park entry to kibale national park. However, a tour operator who is a foreign resident is charged 50 USD as annual park entrance fee, and UGX 125000 for a tour operator who is an east African citizen.

To note, the park entry fees to kibale national park are free of any other charges inside the national park like activity charges, accommodation, car hire among others. At the entry gate to the national park, you are required to present any document that can easily identify your status.

Vehicle entry fees

Being a protected area, kibale national park has tariffs to the motor vehicles that enter into the national park as well. However, the traffic vary from one another basing on the status of the motor engine; foreign or east African, as shown below;

Motor cycles which are foreign are charges 30 USD and UGX 10000, if east African, as park entry fee to kibale national park. On the other hand, salon cars are charged 40 USD for foreign cars as park entry, whereas east African salon cars are charged UGX 20000 as park entry to kibale national park.

Minibuses are charged 50 USD for foreign and UGX 30000 for east African, as park entry charge to kibale national park. Pick-ups and 4WDS on the other hand, are charged 50 USD and UGX 30000 for foreign and east African vehicles respectively, as park entry to kibale national park.

Thetour company vehicles, on the other hand, are charged 120 USD and UGX 30000, for foreign and east African respectively. The buses and Lorries are charged 150 USD and UGX 150000, for foreign and east African, respectively, as park entry tariffs to kibale national park. The school buses are considered to be east African vehicles, and are charged UGX 50000 as park entry fee to kibale national park.

In a synopsis, all protected areas have strict entry rule, but these are put in place just to limit free movements in the eco sites within the protected areas, which would damage the ecology of the national parks. The entry charge is used to promote the conservation projects within kibale national park and also fund planning and implementation of sustainable tourism plans, plus evaluating policies among others.
